Relaxed Elegance in a Historic Home

Hi folks,

We had the pleasure of meeting one of the original owners of our home.  She had lived in our historic home for 50 years or so.  What an elegant and gracious lady she is!  Upon researching pictures of the house, we came across interior pictures of her home.  It was beautifully decorated with traditional antiques, floral wallpaper and of course gorgeous rugs.  We certainly felt a need to respect the history of this home and yet, make comfortable for our family.

Below are some of the original photos

With those photos in my mind and the trend toward luxurious fabrics on the rise, I knew we would be doing more

elegant interiors than the farmhouse ideas I originally planned.  The trick was to reference the history of the house but give it a modern spin. I know that COLOR is huge right now, but I found luxurious fabrics that inspired the

neutral color scheme.  With the idea to simplify, we wanted all the walls to be white and fresh and the neutral color scheme to give us a place to unwind after long days.

Just looking at fabrics gets me inspired and is usually where I begin my projects. Here are some of the fabrics that I used in the actual project.  A mix of Velvet, silks and wool flannel with lots of texture!

Just to name a few Manuel Canovas, Kravet Couture, Nancy Corzine, and Colefax and Fowler.  I loved the mix of Greige, Grey, Charcoal and Dove Brown.

What inspires your projects?  Artwork? Rugs? Fabrics? Textiles?

xoxo
